Bruno Fernandes crashes Porsche ahead of Liverpool clash as Man Utd star escapes injuries

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes was involved in a car crash on Monday morning.

The 27-year-old and others passengers in the Porsche did not suffered serious injuries. Pictures of the incident shows damage to Fernandes' vehicle, which crashed into a Volkswagen. It's unclear whether the electric Porsche Panamera - valued at £94,000 - is damaged beyond repair.

It's also unclear if anyone in the other car - which collided with a wooden fence and deployed an airbag - was injured. A police van, an ambulance and a fire engine were spotted at the incident. Pictures from the scene show Fernandes assessing the damage.

Fernandes still reported for training at Carrington on Monday. United face Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening and Fernandes will be available for selection. United lost 5-0 at home to the Reds earlier this season.

"Yes, he was training with the team obviously the accident happened on the way to Carrington," said United interim manager Ralf Rangnick on Monday afternoon. "As far as I know, no one was injured. He was ok and he'll be ok for tomorrow."

Fernandes has been a vital player for United since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, scoring 49 goals in 120 appearances. He won four Premier League Player of the Month awards in 2020 alone, becoming the first player to achieve the feat in a calendar year.

Fernandes recently signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford, highlighting his importance to the team. He is a 42-cap Portugal international, helping his country win the Nations League in 2019.

United are currently fifth in the Premier League, three points behind Tottenham in fourth. They have six league games remaining this season against Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Brentford, Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Fernandes has missed just two Premier League games this season, one due to suspension and the other due to illness. He has started as captain in five of his 30 league outings this term when regular skipper Harry Maguire was not selected or unavailable.

“There is so much more that I want to achieve here, and I know that is the same for the rest of the squad and staff," said Fernandes after signing his new contract. "More than anything, we want to give the fans the success that they deserve. We have shared some great moments over the last years, but the best is yet to come from myself and this team."

United's football director John Murtough added: "Everyone is aware of Bruno’s importance to Manchester United. His goals and assists record is phenomenal and he has performed remarkably consistently since he joined.

"He is the ultimate professional with many fantastic attributes to drive the high standards required to play for this great club. Bruno, like everyone across the club remains hugely ambitious and determined to deliver sustained success on the pitch to get us back to challenging for titles."
