Bruno Fernandes and Fred react as Manchester United let two-goal lead slip vs Aston Villa

Bruno Fernandes and Fred have taken to social media to share their reactions after Manchester United were made to settle for a draw against Aston Villa, despite taking a 2-0 lead.

After clocking up wins over Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace in their previous three games, United made the trip to Perth for their final outing in Australia - but a pitch inspection was needed to ensure the Villa meeting went ahead.

Erik ten Hag addressed his own issues with the surface when speaking before stepping into the dugout and those comments were vindicated when players from both teams struggled with their footing early doors. However, they did eventually manage to get to grips with the challenge.

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring by putting the finishing touch on an eye-catching team move while the England forward also had a hand in the second when Matty Cash turned into his own net. Both moments will have no doubt pleased Ten Hag with regards to what he wants from his United players moving forward into the campaign.

However, the Dutchman and his team dropped their levels upon the restart and were pegged back for a draw, with Leon Bailey and Calum Chambers on target. Fernandes and Fred were both withdrawn before that late leveller went in, but are among the first to have reacted on social media.

Addressing his 7.1million followers, Fernandes uploaded a celebration image on Instagram and a short caption read: "We have an amazing time in Australia so thank you for the support. Very important steps in our preparation for the season." It was followed up by a similar message from his United teammate.

Fred added: "Pre-season preparation [tick]. Thank you Australia for incredible support."

United now travel to Norway to conclude their pre-season tour and welcome Rayo Vallecano to Old Trafford before getting their Premier League season up and running at the same venue against Brighton on Sunday, August 7 (2pm).
