Bruno Fernandes and David De Gea agree on what to expect in Liverpool vs Man United

Manchester United duo Bruno Fernandes and David de Gea have explained their motivations for Sunday’s clash against Liverpool.

The Reds take on Man United at Anfield in their next Premier League fixture as they continue to fight for a top-four finish. Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently in sixth place in the table and six points adrift of the Champions League qualifying spots.

Liverpool suffered a 2-1 defeat to United in their previous meeting back in August. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford scored the goals for the home side at Old Trafford, with Mohamed Salah netting a consolation for the Reds.

De Gea has played against Liverpool 27 times in his career, including 14 outings at Anfield. The Spain international goalkeeper has explained why he expects a “very difficult” match against the Reds in a “special” fixture on Merseyside.

“It’s always a special game, to play at Anfield against Liverpool,” De Gea told Man United’s club website. “It’s always nice. But I think again it’s just three points, the same as other games. It’s going to be a tough game for sure.

“Playing at Anfield is always very difficult, but we have confidence and we’ll take that confidence to the next games, go game-by-game and we can see another big game on Sunday.”

De Gea’s thoughts about the fixture against Liverpool were echoed by Fernandes. The Portugal international midfielder has explained why he will have extra motivation to beat the Reds.

Fernandes said: “As I said, we know how important these kind of games are for our fanbase and as important as it is for them, it is for us in the same way, because we want to give them as much joy as we can, as much happiness as we can.

“Happiness and joy is winning games, so winning at Anfield: we know what that will mean to our fanbase.

“We will do everything that we can to get the three points in that game.”
