Bruce Willis’s wife Emma Hemming has denied reports she is looking for her “five minutes” of fame, after his dementia diagnosis.
Willis’s family confirmed last month that the actor has been diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia, which affects his cognitive abilities and movement abilities.
Emma, 44, has been giving regular updates on social media on how her husband is doing as she and his family continue to offer him the care he needs, and has been taking the opportunity to also raise awareness about dementia to listeners.
In a video shared on Wednesday on Instagram, Emma, who has been married to Willis since 2009, addressed people talking about her getting “my five minutes”, following her videos.
“I just saw something about me getting my ‘five minutes,’ which is great, which means that you’re listening,” Emma said.
“So, I’m going to take my five minutes and I’m gonna turn it into 10 because I’m always going to advocate for my husband.”
Emma, who shares two young children with Willis, shared her positive outlook as she said that she would use the momentum gained to shed a spotlight on her husband’s condition, and on the caregivers of those with the same illness.
She continued: “And then I’m going to turn my grief and my anger and my sadness into something good around something that feels less than.
“Watch this space because I didn’t come to play.”
Emma’s stepdaughter Scout Willis joined followers in praising her for biting back at the fame-hungry accusations.
Scout, 31, wrote in the comment section: “HELL YES! I am so so proud of you!”
Emma’s latest video comes as she has shut down claims that Demi Moore has “moved in” with her and ex-husband Willis to help care for the actor after his diagnosis.
The mum-of-two denied the report by Radar Online, writing on Instagram Stories on Wednesday: “Let’s nip this one in the bud. This is so dumb. Please stop.”
Emma has continued to be outspoken on social media in regards to her husband.
In a video shared earlier this week, she urged photographers to “keep your space” after Willis was filmed and heckled by paparazzi while out for coffee a few days ago.
Emma said: “Please don’t be yelling at my husband and asking him how he’s doing. Just don’t do it.”
