Bruce Springsteen has announced he is going on tour in the UK – for the first time in six years.
As part of the American icon’s 2023 tour, Springsteen, along with the E Street Band, will play in Edinburgh in May and Birmingham in June, before two dates at next year’s Hyde Park British Summer Time festival in July.
And although summer 2023 might seem like an excruciatingly long time to wait, fans of Springsteen need to get organised now: tickets go on sale next Thursday.
The 2023 tour is Springsteen’s first global excursion in six years. It begins in Florida in February next year and ends in Monza, Italy at the end of July. His trip to the UK capital will be his first time back in the city since he sold out Wembley Stadium in 2016.
Springsteen also did two “tours” in 2017-2018 and again in 2021, but these could be better regarded as residencies. Springsteen on Broadway saw the musician set up shop at first the Walter Kerr Theatre and then the St. James Theatre in New York, and he played as many as five shows a week.
Bruce & The E Street Band have announced four UK dates on their 2023 International Tour! The new dates mark their first UK shows since 5 June 2016 at Wembley Stadium.

Since his 2016 tour, the New Jersey singer has released two studio albums: 2019’s Western Stars and 2020’s Letter to You. He has also delivered two live albums: 2018’s Springsteen on Broadway and 2021’s The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts.
He also featured on the Bleachers’ 2020 single Chinatown, The Killers’ 2021 track Dustland and John Mellencamp’s 2021 Wasted Days.
Last month Springsteen surprised fans by popping up during Paul McCartney’s headlining set at Glastonbury. He played his 1985 song Glory Days from the album Born in the U.S.A. He also played The Beatles’ I Wanna Be Your Man with McCartney.
Springsteen, who is now 72 years old, is one of the originators of the heartland rock genre which is now one of America’s most recognisable. He has released 20 studio albums, been awarded 20 Grammys, has sold more than 135 million records and has been on 18 headlining tours, the first of which began in 1974.
In an interview with the New York Times in October 2020, Springsteen, who has acquired the nickname “The Boss”, said: “I’m at a point in my playing life and artistic life where I’ve never felt as vital.
“My band is at its best, and we have so much accumulated knowledge and craft about what we do that this was a time in my life where I said, ‘I want to use that as much as I can.’”
