The Cleveland Browns, coming off of a year with brutal injury luck, have already been hit with it again as Pro Bowl tight end David Njoku will not play against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In his pre-practice press conference today, head coach Kevin Stefanski officially ruled Njoku out after he suffered a high ankle sprain in their Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
However, the Browns placed four players on Injured Reserve today, and none of them were Njoku. This means we could see him return as early as next week when the Browns take on the New York Giants. The Pro Bowl tight end played through third-degree burns last season, don’t rule out him wrapping up his ankle and toughing it out sooner rather than later.
For now, however, the Browns will roll with Jordan Akins against the Jaguars while elevating one of the three tight ends from the practice squad.
