Browns promote OT Geron Christian to active roster

The Cleveland Browns added depth to the offensive line with the elevation of one of their own.

Cleveland promoted offensive tackle Geron Christian from the practice squad to the active roster, the team officially announced Tuesday. The move is likely due to fellow tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. landing on injured reserve with an MCL sprain. Willis Jr. will be sidelined for a minimum of four weeks while he recovers from the injury.

Christian, a former 2018 third-round pick by the Washington Commanders, signed with the Browns on Oct. 31 after he spent time on the Houston Texans practice squad this season. Christian spent his first three seasons with the Commanders before brief stints with the Texans, Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins. He’s never been a full-time starter, but did start eight games for the Commanders from 2019-2020 and eight for the Texans in 2021. Christian played 33 snaps for the Texans in Week 1 of this season.

James Hudson II will likely be the starting left tackle after he took over for Wills in the Browns’ Week 9 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Christian, meanwhile, should serve as his backup unless head coach Kevin Stefanski has other plans.
