There were plenty of people, myself included, who were surprised when the Cleveland Browns drafted Martin Emerson Jr. with their first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. They had just drafted Greg Newsome II the year before and signed Denzel Ward to a massive extension.
But to my delight, Emerson Jr. has been fantastic over the last year and to start this season. His size and physicality allow him to match up with bigger wide receivers and tight ends split out wide mixed with impressive althecism and play recognition Emerson Jr. is a really good corner.
Buy Browns TicketsAccording to PFF, Emerson Jr. has allowed the lowest completion percentage in the NFL, of players targeted at least 10 times, at a nice 26.7%. Quarterbacks are only completing one pass out of about every four attempts while targeting the Browns’ second-year corner.
There have been several players this year who look impressive in Jim Schwartz’s defense but Emerson Jr. has truly flourished. The defense will face the juggernaut 49ers next weekend out of the bye as they look to get back on track.
