The Cleveland Browns have locked up the offensive backfield for 2022. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Browns have agreed to contractual terms with RB D’Ernest Johnson on a new contract.
Johnson will earn up to $2.43 million on the one-year deal, with $900,000 fully guaranteed at signing. The figures were noted by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who Johnson recently switched to in an effort to coax a new deal from Cleveland.
He was originally with the Browns this offseason on a restricted free agent tender offer. Cleveland GM Andrew Berry had indicated earlier this offseason that keeping the talented 26-year-old RB was a priority for the team. Johnson netted 534 yards on 100 carries as the No. 3 RB in Cleveland in 2021, earning two starts along the way in relief of Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb.
