Browns interviewing former Eagles OC Brian Johnson for same role

Just let go by the Philadelphia Eagles, Brian Johnson will speak to the Cleveland Browns about their offensive coordinator vacancy.

Cleveland dot com’s Mary Kay Cabot was the first to report that Johnson will be in Cleveland to sit down with head coach Kevin Stefanski and company. Johnson took over as the play-caller and offensive coordinator of the Eagles this year after Shane Steichen departed for the Indianapolis Colts.

The efficiency in Cleveland dropped off drastically from Steichen to Johnson, however, as the Eagles’ offense fell to a middle-of-the-road unit in Expected Points Added per play during their end-of-season collapse starting in Week 13.

Johnson joins Ken Dorsey, Andy Dickerson, and Jerrod Johnson on the list of candidates the Browns have interviewed for their opening. With four teams still playing football as well, the Browns could continue to hold out until after the Super Bowl in case there are candidates like Klint Kubiak of the San Francisco 49ers they want to bring in for an interview.

Having proximity to Steichen, one of the elite play-callers in the NFL, could be an attractive quality to Johnson that the Browns are interested in picking further. With no timetable for a hire, the search for a new offensive coordinator ticks on.
