Browns bring back Rochell, Rosen to practice squad

The Cleveland Browns roster under GM Andrew Berry has always been very fluid. Berry likes to “churn the bottom of the roster” to try to find the right fit, try to find lightning in a bottle and try to develop physically gifted players.

In a little over 24 hours, Berry has set the team’s initial 53-man roster, claimed QB Kellen Mond, tried to get TE Trevon Wesco, waived DE Isaac Rochell and signed 12 players to the practice squad, bringing them back from their training camp roster.

With four spots left to fill on the team’s practice squad, Berry brought back two more familiar faces on Thursday with Rochell and QB Josh Rosen being added:

The return of Rochell provides more depth on the defensive line. The veteran played well in preseason and showed the versatility to slide inside when needed.

The return of Rosen is a bit more surprising. Mond was added as the team’s third quarterback behind Jacoby Brissett and Joshua Dobbs. Rosen gives the team four quarterbacks to work with in practice which is a bit unusual once training camp rosters are sliced down.

With the return of Rosen and Rochell, Cleveland still has two practice squad spots available. So far, Mond is the only external player brought into either the 53-man roster or the practice squad.
