Brown and Blue Is the Chic Color Combination Designers Are Embracing This Fall – Shop 20 Pieces Inspired by This Cool Yet Calming Trend

Living room with dark wood panelled walls, a pale blue sofa at the centre with cushions on top, a dark brown leather coffee table, two leather pouffes underneath, and a mustard velvet armchair.

Brown and blue aren't exactly an obvious color pairing. Cool and warm are often tricky to mix. Many might pair brown with an earthier hue from its own color family, such as olive green or burnt orange. And the same goes for blue; the easy choice would be to couple it with a hue similarly cool in tone. But real color aficionados will know that whether it's a deep teal paired with a chocolate brown or a cheery powder blue beside a toffee-toned taupe, brown and blue is a combination that, if done right, can look ever-so chic.

And it's a color trend you can introduce into your home without having to commit to a total overhaul with paint. Many recent fall collections feature this unexpectedly autumnal color palette. Greenrow's latest homeware launch is threaded with pale blues and organic browns, and Joanna Gaines' latest drop at Magnolia gives this hot and cold combo a heritage feel with chocolate browns and dusty cornflower blues.

Inspired by the color combination of the moment, we've put together a collection of twenty little luxuries to give your home some style and substance, for this season and beyond.

'A rich blue and brown color palette transcends trends,' says Hero Dalrymple, Creative Director at Albion Nord. 'This combination is rooted in nature and evokes a sense of peace and permanence. Blue exudes calmness and works beautifully with browns and the naturally warm tones of wood.'

Interior designer Nina Farmer swears by the marriage of brown and blue. 'I love pairing blue and brown because it's one of the most timeless color combinations,' she says. Referring to a recent living room project, she says, 'Walnut paneling brings warmth and richness, while the soft blue upholstery adds a sense of calm and keeps the room feeling light. By layering these tones throughout the furnishings, textiles, and artwork, the palette feels collected, balanced, and inviting rather than overly coordinated. It's a classic combination that never feels dated.'

Expect to see plenty more brown and blue in the same room this year. The perfect balance of luxurious and warm yet cheery and unexpected, it's a color trend that works in every home, regardless of style.
