Brothers who shot and stabbed men in Brent ambush jailed for 69 years

Two brothers have been sentenced to decades behind bars for a stabbing and double shooting in Brent.

Jahni and Jahmarley Thomas received 35 and 34 years respectively after being found guilty of two counts of attempted murder.

At Isleworth Crown Court, they were also convicted of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of points and blades.

While no lives were lost in the attacks, police said this was due to "luck" rather than any mercy shown by the brothers.

The trial concluded in 2022, with Jahmarley Thomas, 26, sentenced last year. His brother Jahni, 30, learned his fate last week.

The incident occurred in November 2021 when police responded to reports of a stabbing and gunshots on Standard Road in Brent, northwest London.

“Police, including firearms officers, attended the scene and found a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest and a stab wound to the back,” the Met has said.

“He was taken by ambulance to hospital where his injuries, although initially serious, were deemed not life threatening following treatment.”

“Another man, aged 31, also sustained a gunshot wound to his hand and was taken to hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.”

The court heard the brothers ambushed their first victim from behind, stabbing him once and shooting him in the left shoulder. A second victim, attempting to seek shelter in a vehicle, was shot at point-blank range. The bullet passed through his hand and struck his chest, though remarkably only caused bruising.

While it was not specified which brother fired the shots, both were deemed equally responsible for the attacks.

Detective constable Tom Harris of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said: “This so easily could have been a murder investigation. The fact that nobody was killed was pure luck.

“The Thomas' actions were premeditated and planned, with no consideration for the safety of bystanders who may have unwittingly been caught up in the shootings.

“The sentences handed down to the brothers demonstrates the danger they pose and I hope that the victims find a measure of closure in knowing that they have been taken off our streets for a considerable time.”
