Brother of murdered Jennifer Poole hits out at killer who threatened prison officers

The brother of murder victim Jennifer Poole has hit out at her killer calling him a “horrible human” who should never see the light of day again after he threatened prison officers.

Mum-of-two Jennifer (24) was fatally assaulted at her home in Melville Drive in Finglas on April 17 last year. Her partner of around one year, Gavin Murphy (30), was given the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court in April.

Evil Murphy, of Coultry Drive in Ballymun, had a previous conviction for assaulting another partner and her mother, where he produced a knife which he kept hidden from Jennifer. Jennifer had believed Murphy had just returned from Spain, when in fact he had been in jail.

Since behind bars the evil killer has threatened prison officers and inmates. Last week he was transferred from Mountjoy Prison to the top security Portlaoise Prison in Co Laois after the violent brute threatened another prison officer.

Now Jennifer’s grieving brother Jason has hit out calling Murphy an “evil horrible animal,” and calls on Minister for Justice Helen McEntee to review legislation and look at the current parole system.

“This horrible human should never see the light of day again,” Jason said. “More needs to be done to protect society from the likes of these types of people. Our laws do not go far enough to protect the citizens of this country and these people will walk free after taking the lives of others.

“He should never get out. Life should mean life. He has caused trouble in the prison.

“In about 12 years time he will be able to go before the parole board, put on a great show for them and try to get released. This needs to change. My family and Jennifer’s kids will have to write and say why he shouldn’t be released.

He also called on the Government again to put in place a Domestic Violence Register - or Jennifer’s Law - that would make available information about anyone who has a conviction for domestic violence. “If the register was in place Jennifer could have been informed and had the opportunity to leave had she known what his previous was," Jason continued.

"She didn’t have that choice because she wasn’t aware. We are not going to let this go. The register needs to be set up. More and more people are losing their lives through domestic violence.”

Previously, Jason told us that he fears the day evil Murphy is released as there is a chance Jennifer’s two children - who were aged four and seven at the time of her killing - will “bump into him on the streets.”

He said: “Our fear is that some day the children will remember what happened to their mammy and remember who did it and there is a chance they will meet each other again on the streets. We are hoping that sentences for serious offences like this will be much longer.

“But even if a perpetrator got 30 years, it's still never going to bring the victim back but at least the person who has done the crime gets a proper sentence.”
