The occupants of the van - a man and a woman in their 20s and an infant, were left minorly injured in the crash and were taken to hospital.
Speaking last night, one of Brian’s friends, Natalie Harmon, described him as a “good soul.” She added: “He was a great lad. He made me smile and was always there. We went through hard times together but both came out the other end and life got in the way.
“He was in Mayo, I’m in Dublin but we text and he was such a funny character. He would do impressions and have us in stitches laughing. He was such a good soul. He will be sadly missed.”
Meanwhile, a pal of Sharon Ryan, who asked not to be named, said many of her colleagues at the Kilkerrin Clonberne Ladies Football Club will greatly miss her.
“She worked in our club gym. Sharon ran the gym. It was her base for running her own business and she kind of looked after the gym as well.
“It’s only recently that she started coming around to our club. She’ll be a huge loss around the area. She was well known and was well liked and was a real addition to the club,” the friend said.
Sharon was a well known fitness coach in the area and is originally from Tuam, pals said. She was also the owner and head coach of Phoenix Fitness 247 in the Ballinasloe area of Galway.
And conveying the sense of loss in the community, local councillor Damien Ryan said: “I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to both families on a huge personal loss which has sent shockwaves right throughout the community.”
Tragic Brian’s brother Oisin Mullin is a well known rising star in Mayo GAA - and was once considering a move to professional Aussie Rules career. Oisin is also two-time Young Footballer of the Year.
In an appeal on Monday, a garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
“Any road users who were traveling in the area and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
