Brooklyn Beckham makes sarcastic dig at career change jibes as he poses in football kit

Brooklyn Beckham joked he had embarked on yet another 'career change' in a cheeky Instagram post.

The eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham shared a video of himself playing football, suggesting he was following in the footsteps of his famous dad.

Showing off his fancy footwork on the pitch, the 24-year-old celebrated after scoring a goal.

His proud dad David was quick to comment on the post saying: “Haha gooooooaaallll @brooklynpeltzbeckham” followed by a football and flame emoji.

But aspiring chef Brooklyn, who has also had stints as a photographer and model, assured his 15.1 million followers it wasn’t a new job for him.

“Don’t worry not a career change,” he said poking fun at himself with a laughing face emoji.

Fans were quick to comment underneath with many praising Brooklyn’s football skills and comparing him to his former Premiership ace dad.

“Bend it like Beckham boy”, one wrote, while another commented: “Like father like son.”

A third said: “Bro the way you shoot is just like your father. Happy to see that. Perfect goal!”

“With a goal like that you showcase you had the ability... but late to get bac into it at this age,” a fourth chimed in.

While a fifth added: “Your pops would be proud, even if it’s just for fun. Good for you Brooklyn!”

Although he didn’t carry it on, Brooklyn did actually play professional football briefly for Arsenal’s youth team.

But the then 16-year-old was booted out for failing to receive a scholarship to remain at the academy.

In an interview at the time, disappointed dad David told ABC: “One of my boys turned around to me the other day and said, ‘Daddy, I’m not sure I want to play football all the time.’ That broke my heart a little bit.”

Explaining Brooklyn’s reasons for quitting the sport, his dad explained: “He said, ‘Every time I step on to the field, I know people are saying, ‘This is David Beckham ’s son’. And if I’m not as good as you, then it’s not good enough.”

Although Brooklyn no longer plays football, his 20-year-old brother Romeo currently plays for Brentford FC.

Following his short stint as a footballer, Brooklyn tried his hand at being a model and fashion photographer.

The young star, who married billionaire heiress Nicola Peltz last year, was accused of ‘sheer nepotism’ after landing a job as an assistant with world-renowned photographer Rankin.

But this was dogged by reports that crew could not believe how incapable he was.

Brooklyn was also accepted as a student at the esteemed Parsons School of Design in New York, but later dropped out.

In 2017 he released a photography book called What I See, which was again blasted and struggled to sell.

Despite this, he went on to land a deal to shoot a major campaign for fashion brand Burberry, that some claimed was only down to his famous parent’s connections.

Most recently, he has embarked on a career as a ‘celebrity chef’ after posting cooking videos to his social media channels during lockdown.

In an interview with the Evening Standard , Brooklyn says cooking is where he sees his future.

He said: “I started doing football and I love that, then went into photography, which I am still in love with and now I do cooking.

“I’ve always been into trying new food, even if it is sometimes a bit not that great. I remember trying jellied eels because I’ve always liked pie and mash — and I did not like them at all.”
