Brooklyn Beckham has divided fans after showing off his culinary skills making a fish and chips sandwich.
The aspiring chef, who is the son of Victoria, 48, and David Beckham, 47, often shares his recipes with his 14.5 million Instagram followers. The 23-year-old's latest reel featured a twist on the classic British dish.
Sharing the video on Tuesday, Brooklyn filmed himself cutting up potatoes and frying them in oil before adding salt to them. He then whipped up a batter which he smothered on two small fresh fish fillets and fried them in a shallow pan.
Not forgetting one of the most important parts to a classic fish and chips, Brooklyn chopped up pickles, capers and herbs for his homemade tartar sauce and began assembling the sandwich.
The newlywed placed his freshly fried battered fish fillets onto white bread, arranged the chips on top, then dolloped the sauce on before cutting the sarnie in half and taking a big bite. “Fish and chips sandwich,” he captioned the short video.
Fans buzzed over Brooklyn's "delicious" creation in the comments section. One wrote: "I’m so freaking proud of you and this life you are LIVING!!! I love watching these videos."
"Well yes, when Gordon Ramsay is a family friend," alongside a fire emoji quipped one viewer. Another penned: "That's his Manchester heritage shining through! Looks so good "
However, not all fans were impressed with the budding chef's recent recipe. One fan penned: "Toasted bread?! God no, has to be fresh, buttered bread for fish and chips"
"I wouldn’t eat it after seeing those nails," wrote another viewer. A third commented: "You could do with going out and getting a job rather than waste your time cooking chips #justsaying ".
Brooklyn has been focusing on his culinary career and documenting it through his series Cookin' With Brooklyn. However, due to his lack of experience and professional qualifications, many critics to dismiss his 'amateur' efforts.
The English star has been vocal about trying to take British cuisine over to the states, where he lives with new wife Nicola Peltz. Speaking to Variety earlier this year, Brooklyn said: "Some Americans find English food kind of gross, which I don’t understand, but I cook fish and chips and pie and mash for my American friends, and at the end they’re like, ‘OK, I understand.’”
He added to the publication that he prefers the term "cook" to "chef", saying: “I’m almost 100% self-taught, ever since the start of quarantine, I’ve done it every single day, and it’s the one thing I’ve found that takes my mind off of anything I’m thinking about.”
“I would love to have my own pub. I would love to have my own sauces, knives, pots and pans,” Brooklyn added. “Not like a chef - I’m always going to be learning about cooking.
“I want to have so many TV shows, and hopefully one day open up a pub in L.A., because L.A. needs a pub.”
