The Denver Broncos committed one of the most talked about mistakes in recent memory in Week 1. Nathaniel Hackett instructed quarterback Russell Wilson to let the clock wind down by more than 45 seconds late in the fourth and elected to settle for a 64-yard field goal attempt instead of going for it on fourth-and-five. The kick hooked left and the Broncos lost 17-16 on Monday.
That game wouldn’t have gotten to that point if Denver’s offense had finished their drives in the red zone, as wide receiver Jerry Jeudy pointed out.
The Broncos made four trips to the red zone, coming away with zero touchdowns and two turnovers. For Jeudy, that was a recipe for an unsuccessful night despite out-gaining the Seahawks by 180 yards (433 total offense to Seattle’s 253 yards).
“I thought we did a pretty good job driving the ball, I think the biggest thing that went wrong was we just need to finish,” Jeudy said after the game. “We did a good job on driving the ball, we did a good job in the second half of getting our stops, we just have to finish.”
Jeudy had a good game, finishing with four catches for 102 yards and a touchdown, but he’s not satisfied.
“It would feel much better if we had the [win], but at the end of the day, the game is over and it’s time to focus on next week.”
Denver’s offense will aim to bounce back and finish drives with touchdowns against the Houston Texans in Week 2.
