The Denver Broncos are 1-4 following Sunday’s 31-21 loss to the New York Jets. With such a poor record, it seems fair to wonder if the team will be sellers ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline on Oct. 31.
On this week’s Broncos Wire podcast, I joined host Ryan O’Leary to react to the loss against the Jets, discuss the upcoming trade deadline and preview Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Our unedited notes for this week’s pod can be seen below.
Ryan’s rant on Sean Payton
- Payton talked a big talk this offseason but he wasn’t able to back it up on the field.
- Payton said the team’s 2022 season under Nathaniel Hackett “might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL.” He also said this summer that he would be “pissed off” if Denver doesn’t make the playoffs in 2023.
- After losing to Hackett’s team on Sunday, the Broncos are now 1-4. If they lose to the Chiefs on Thursday, it will tie the worst six-game record (1-5) in franchise history.
- Broncos fans considered losing to Hackett worse than the 70-20 loss in Miam
- Hackett got the last laugh and the Jets taunted Payton with a funny meme on Twitter after the game.
Will the Broncos be sellers at the trade deadline? Should they be?
- NFL teams have called the Broncos about LT Garett Bolles, OLB Frank Clark, DB Justin Simmons, WR Jerry Jeudy and WR Courtland Sutton.
- Denver traded OLB Randy Gregory to the 49ers last week in a late-round pick swap.
- Payton claims the Broncos are not looking to move more players, but that might change in the coming weeks.
- Should the team be sellers at the deadline? To me, Pat Surtain should be one of the few players who are safe. All of the five players listed above I would be willing to trade to stockpile draft picks for a rebuild.
- The NFL’s trade deadline is Oct. 31.
Broncos go on the road for Thursday Night Football
- Denver is a 10.5-point underdog against the Chiefs this week. The over/under is 51.5.
- KC has won 15 straight games against the Broncos.
- I think the big question about this game that we’re all really wondering is — will Taylor Swift be at the game?
Ryan and I will return each week during the season to react to every game.
