Today’s surprise becomes tomorrow’s expectation.
In other words, Pat Surtain‘s rookie season was impressive. Now, Broncos Country not only expects Surtain to repeat it, but they also want him to improve. Veteran defensive back Kareem Jackson expects a leap in Year 2 from Surtain as well.
“I say this all the time about Pat — a guy with that size, speed, and the technique that he has is rare to be that young,” Jackson said last week. “I know he wants to get better in every aspect. He comes out every day and puts the work in. Just the little things — he’s been honing in on the small details.
“I sit next to him in the meetings, so the little stuff I see, I try to help him. It’s been [a] night and day difference from his rookie year, and he had one hell of a rookie year. Seeing him now, he’s so much more patient in everything that he does. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what he does on Sundays.”
Surtain, meanwhile, is pleased with the competitive spirit going on during the third phase of OTAs. Circling back to Jackson’s comments, oddly enough, Surtain feels the former’s expectations. Surtain is already looking to build on his impressive rookie season.
