Broncos signing two XFL players, but not OLB Trent Harris

The Denver Broncos are signing two of the three XFL players who tried out for the team at rookie minicamp over the weekend.

Denver has agreed to terms with quarterback Ben DiNucci and running back Jacques Patrick, but the team does not plan to sign pass rusher Trent Harris, according to the Denver Gazette‘s Chris Tomasson.

It’s a somewhat surprising development given that Harris (6-2, 255 pounds) could have added depth and experience to the team’s pass rush rotation following Jake Martin’s release last week. Harris, 27, spent time with five NFL teams before playing in the XFL this spring.

Harris entered the league as an undrafted rookie out of Miami with the New England Patriots in 2018. After spending his rookie season on New England’s Patriots squad, Harris joined the Miami Dolphins in 2019.

Harris played in 11 games with the Dolphins that season, totaling 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He then joined the New York Giants in 2020 and appeared in eight games over the next two years, recording 12 tackles and a half-sack.

After his stint in New York, Harris spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 but did not appear in any regular season games.

Harris starred in the XFL this spring, leading the league with 9.5 sacks while playing under former Broncos coach Wade Phillips. After failing to get a contract in Denver, perhaps Harris will land with another NFL team.
