Broncos signing OLB Nik Bonitto to 4-year contract

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms on a four-year contract with outside linebacker Nik Bonitto, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis first reported Wednesday. Bonitto is now set to earn $6,142,968 over the next four years, according to OverTheCap.com, an average of $1,535,742 per year.

Denver picked Bonitto in the second round of the NFL draft out of Oklahoma in April. He was a productive pass rusher with the Sooners, totaling 26.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and 16 sacks over his final two seasons (21 games).

With the Broncos, Bonitto will begin his career as a rotational pass rusher behind Bradley Chubb and Randy Gregory. With Chubb scheduled to become a free agent next year, though, Bonitto could find himself in a starting role by the time the 2023 season arrives.

The list of players set to compete with Bonitto for playing time this summer includes Malik Reed, Jonathon Cooper, Christopher Allen and perhaps Baron Browning, depending on what Browning’s primary position is this year.

Bonitto, set to turn 23 in September, is now signed through 2025.
