Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at second-year* tight end Lucas Krull, No. 85.
Before the Broncos: Krull (6-6, 260 pounds) entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Pittsburgh with the New Orleans Saints in 2022. He spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad, dressing for just one game.
Broncos tenure: Denver signed Krull to its practice squad last August and he was promoted to the active roster in December. He ended up dressing for seven games last fall, earning two starts. Krull hauled in eight receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown in his first season with the Broncos.
*Krull has been in the NFL since 2022, but the league considers him a “second-year” player because he only has one accrued season (dressing for at least six regular-season games in the same season).
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Near lock. Krull had a modest first season in Denver, but he stood out this spring, drawing praise from coach Sean Payton. Krull might not start in Week 1, but he is likely to make the active roster as one of the team’s top tight ends in 2024.
