Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fourth-year outside linebacker Ronnie Perkins, No. 51.
Before the Broncos: Perkins (6-3, 253 pounds) entered the league as a third-round pick out of Oklahoma with the New England Patriots in 2021. He was inactive or on injured reserve for all of his rookie season and then missed the 2022 season with another injury. Last summer, the Patriots waived Perkins during roster cuts and bumped him down to their practice squad.
Broncos tenure: Denver signed Perkins off New England’s practice squad last September. He dressed for seven games in 2023, totaling 13 tackles and one quarterback hit on 149 defensive snaps. He also played 21 snaps on special teams.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Likely. Perkins’ chances of making the active roster are increased by the fact that Drew Sanders (Achilles) will begin the season on injured reserve. Baron Browning, Jonathon Cooper, Nik Bonitto and Jonah Elliss are locks at outside linebacker. Assuming the Broncos plan to carry more than four OLBs, Perkins should have a good shot to make the team as well.
