Broncos roster series: No. 14, WR Courtland Sutton

Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at seventh-year wide receiver Courtland Sutton, No. 14.

Before the Broncos: Sutton (6-4, 216 pounds) played college football at SMU, hauling in 193 receptions for 3,193 yards and 31 touchdowns in his final three seasons with the Mustangs. He earned first-team All-AAC recognition after his junior and senior seasons in 2016 and 2017.

Broncos tenure: Denver picked Sutton in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft. He played in all 16 games as a rookie, totaling 42 receptions for 704 yards with four touchdowns in nine starts. Sutton made the Pro Bowl in 2019 after hauling in 72 receptions for 1,112 yards and six scores in Year 2.

Sutton then missed all but one game in 2020 with a torn ACL. After that, he posted 58/776/2 and 64/829/2 totals from 2021-2022 (catches, yards, TDs). Last fall, Sutton scored a career-high 10 touchdowns on 59 receptions with 772 receiving yards.

Chances to make the 53-man roster: Near-lock. The only thing that would prevent Sutton from making the team would be a trade. The receiver is unhappy with his contract and it remains to be seen if the Broncos plan to appease him. If the two sides can’t find a middle ground, a trade might be possible. If they sort out their differences, though, Sutton is a lock.
