Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams has recovered well from last season’s knee injury and he is on track to play in preseason later this month.
“Yeah, he will get reps,” coach Sean Payton said after a training camp practice on Aug. 3. “It may be that we wait until Week 2. We haven’t gone through the outline of the plays yet, but I like how he is progressing.”
The Broncos will go on the road to play against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 of preseason on Aug. 11, but the team might wait until their Week 2 game against the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 19 to give Williams reps.
“Next week as we get ready for Arizona, we will begin to look [at mapping out playing time],” Payton said. “We typically go into three roles. First phase, second phase and third phase. That’s leading up to the game, and then we practice accordingly.”
After playing the Niners, Denver will host the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3 of preseason on Aug. 26. Williams is on track to play in at least one of the team’s upcoming exhibition games.
