The Denver Broncos’ offense is off to a poor start this season thanks in part to the underwhelming play of quarterback Russell Wilson.
After the quarterback threw two interceptions in a 12-9 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, Wilson accepted blame for the defeat. As he often does, Wilson then turned attention toward positives.
“For us, this season so far, we’ve hurt ourselves, making penalties or turning the ball over, whatever it may be in key situations,” Wilson said. “The great thing — I’m going to look at the good news — the good news is that when we get rid of those things — we [can] eliminate those things.
“How great can we really be? How great can we really be? That’s what I’m going to stay focused on because there’s so much good, but the bad is bad. We have to be able to clean that up and like I said, it starts with me.”
Wilson has completed 59.4% of his passes for 1,254 yards with four touchdown passes and three interceptions through three games. He has also rushed 17 times for 73 yards and a touchdown and he’s been sacked 16 times.
Those certainly aren’t the numbers Broncos fans were hoping for when the quarterback joined the team earlier this year, but Wilson is confident things will get turned around.
“I’m looking forward to turning it around,” Wilson said. “Looking forward to turning it around because when we do, it’s going to be a special story when we do it.”
