Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson made his 2023 debut under new coach Sean Payton last weekend with mostly positive results.
In his first game in Payton’s offense, Wilson went 27-of-34 passing for 177 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers. Wilson looked comfortable, and while it came in a losing effort, it was a positive first step under the new coaching staff.

“We have a lot of work to do, just because it’s a long season. It’s going to be something that we’re going to do everything we can to be our best. I feel great. The only thing I’m disappointed [about is that] we didn’t come up with a win [on Sunday]. That’s really all that matters and it’s all we really care about. We’ll get better next week.”
After falling to the Las Vegas Raiders 17-16 on Sunday, Denver is now set to host the Washington Commanders in Week 2. Wilson will look to build on his first performance under Payton with an even better showing — and a win — on Sunday.
