Broncos met with QB Spencer Rattler at the NFL combine

The Denver Broncos are expected to release quarterback Russell Wilson soon and the team has been thorough in their search for a potential replacement.

In addition to meeting with Caleb WilliamsDrake Maye, Jayden Daniels, J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix, Michael Penix and Michael Pratt, the Broncos also met with South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler at the NFL combine last week.

“Broncos went really well,” Spencer said on Friday, via KUSA-TV’s Scotty Gange. “That’s a team that is an interesting situation — [I] met with Coach [Sean] Payton and all those guys. It was a great time, I had great talks with them.”

Rattler (6-0, 211 pounds) spent three years at Oklahoma before transferring to South Carolina ahead of the 2022 season. After spending five seasons in college, Rattler will turn 24 during his rookie season in the NFL.

In two seasons (25 games) with the Gamecocks, Rattler completed 67.5% of his passes for 6,212 yards with 37 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He also scored seven times on the ground at South Carolina.

Most mock drafts project Rattler will be picked in the third or fourth round next month. The Broncos currently hold six picks, including 12th overall. The 2024 NFL draft will be held in Detroit from April 25-27.
