Broncos guard Dalton Risner and cornerback Pat Surtain II were recently named recipients of the 16th annual Darrent Williams Good Guy Award and the Demaryius Thomas Team MVP Award, respectively. Team media presented the awards this past Thursday.
The Darrent Williams Good Guy Award is named after former Broncos cornerback Darren Williams, who passed away at age 24 on January 1st, 2007. The media votes to give the award to the Bronco who best showcases Williams’ character.
“Like many of the state’s natives who have played for the Broncos before him, Dalton is often sought out by media outlets from across the state on a variety of topics in addition to the usual requests from those around the team each day,” said ESPN senior writer and former national president of the PFWA Jeff Legwold.
The Demaryius Thomas Team MVP Award is named after Broncos’ former wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, who passed away on December 9th, 2021. The Broncos player who showcases excellence on and off the field will get awarded moving forward.
“Pat Surtain is a fitting winner of an award named for Demaryius,” Legwold said. “Surtain’s quiet professionalism and consistent on-field excellence each week in a difficult year made him a landslide winner.”
Congrats to both Risner and Surtain on their team awards.
