Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett pleased with the team’s progress entering summer

Many pundits believe the Denver Broncos won the offseason.

The team added coach Nathaniel Hackett, quarterback Russell Wilson and (pending) new owner Rob Walton.

But I just checked, games are still played on the field, not on paper. Reality: The Broncos haven’t made the playoffs since 2015, enter next season with new a coaching staff (and QB) and a new owner. Lots of moving parts.

Yes, the Broncos have the seventh-best Super Bowl odds. But at the end of the day, football is a game played on the field with a leather-laced object. An object that can be manipulated by air pressure. In other words, weird things will happen.

That said, Hackett is pleased with the progress the team made this spring. The Broncos implemented new offensive and defensive schemes this offseason.

“For us, the guys are having fun, the guys are getting after it and they’re competing, which is the most important thing,” Hackett said last week, via DenverBroncos.com. “When it comes to understanding the systems and understanding the reasons why we’re doing the plays, all those things will always grow every day. They’re all doing a fine job and they’re all working so hard. I appreciate that from all of them.”

The Broncos’ mandatory minicamp wrapped up last week. The team is “on vacation” until training camp next month. But as the football conglomerate knows, moves will still be made between now and the start of camp.
