In the third quarter of Sunday’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos, quarterback Jordan Love threw a 16-yard pass into the end zone.
Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain caught up to the ball and wrapped his arms around it, but Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs also grabbed the ball. The two players went to the ground and Doubs rolled away from Surtain with the ball and officials ruled the play an offensive catch and touchdown.
After the game, Surtain (diplomatically) said he thought it was an interception.
“I thought I had it,” Surtain said, via DNRV’s Zac Stevens. “You know, it was left upon the refs. Obviously, I wish I could have that one back. But, you know me, you gotta move on from plays like that. And obviously, once you move on, there’s bigger things [ahead]. Short-term memory, let it go and just move on, but I for sure thought I had it.”
Surtain will get an opportunity to bounce back when the Broncos host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8. Surtain will be seeking his third career interception off Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
