The nation's leading trade group for health insurance brokers has sued the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) over its freeze on new agent and broker registrations in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces. The National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals (NABIP) argues that the rule violates the Administrative Procedure Act and the ACA, Fierce Healthcare reported on Oct. 15.
The suit comes a little more than two weeks before open enrollment begins on Nov. 1. The freeze affects close to 19,000 brokers and agents who would be barred from registering before open enrollment, according to the report.
