Just after the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Georgia offensive tackle Broderick Jones with the No. 14 overall pick, Jones spoke to the media. Pittsburgh used a fourth-round pick to move up three spots in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft to secure the mauling left tackle but according to Jones, he had no idea it was coming.
“Man, there wasn’t any indication,” Jones said.
The Steelers definitely showed a strong interest in this offensive tackle class including Jones but played their cards close to the vest. Probably because there are really only four first-round tackles in this draft and they didn’t want to miss out on Jones. According to reports, the New York Jets were looking to move up for Jones so the Steelers beat them to the punch.
Pittsburgh is hoping Jones can be the upgrade at left tackle that will finish the rebuild of the offensive line.
