Brock Purdy finished third in the Offensive Rookie of the Year voting at the NFL Honors ceremony. Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson won the award, while Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker finished second. Purdy finished with six of 50 first-place votes.
While Purdy was extremely productive after taking over for Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13, he just didn’t have the number of games Walker and Wilson had. His impact on his team as the final pick in the 2022 draft was undeniably important though.
Purdy stepped in early in Week 13 against the Dolphins and the 49ers didn’t lose with him as QB1. He also helped them clinch the NFC West crown with a win over the Seahawks in Seattle on Thursday Night Football in Week 13.
In all, Purdy went 5-0 as a starter in the regular season, and from Week 13 on he posted a 68.3 percent completion rate with 1,308 yards, 13 touchdown passes and three interceptions. He averaged 8.12 yards per attempt and finished that stretch with a 112.0 QB rating.
Mr. Irrelevant was the defining piece of the 49ers’ 2022 season, and the fact he even worked his way into the OROY conversation is a testament to his impact.
