Brock Purdy won’t need to wait to start training camp. General manager John Lynch on Tuesday in his pre-camp press conference said Purdy is cleared to begin practice with the team when they take the field Wednesday.
The initial plan will be for Purdy to practice for two days before getting a day off, but head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated the plan is for Purdy to be a full participant with no days off within the first couple weeks of camp.
This is a little bit of a departure from the original timeline laid out by the team after his offseason elbow surgery. It appeared as though Purdy wouldn’t be ready to practice until late in camp with the hope of being ready for the season opener.
If he’s practicing to start camp it’s a great sign that he’ll be ready for the season opener in Pittsburgh, and he’ll get plenty of time to clear the physical and mental hurdles left in his rehab.
