Stranger Things: The First Shadow, the prequel play to the popular Netflix series, is making its way to Broadway after a successful debut in London. Equity casting notices have been posted in New York City, signaling a 2025 start date for the show. The director for the New York City production is Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stephen Daldry.
The play, written by Kate Trefry based on an original story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and Trefry, premiered at the Phoenix Theatre on the West End on Nov. 17, 2023, with an official opening date of Dec. 14, 2023. The West End version was also directed by Daldry.
'Stranger Things: The First Shadow' is set in 1959 at Hawkins High School, featuring familiar characters like Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado, and Bob Newby during their teenage years. Actor Oscar Lloyd, who portrays young Jim Hopper in the West End production, described the experience as akin to being in a live-action version of the beloved TV show, filled with high-energy and fast-paced excitement.
