More than a quarter of people opted for cleaning over sex
(Picture: Getty Images/iStockphoto)A surprising new study has revealed that the nation would much rather clean the house than have sex.
More than a quarter (26 per cent) said that cleaning their homes was their go-to method to relieve stress, according to research from cleaning expert, Dr. Beckmann.
Working-out took the top spot, with 34 per cent of people opting to reduce stress through exercise, while just 17 per cent chose sex to help de-stress and relax.
The research comes to mark International Stress Awareness Week (1st to 5th November). Dr Beckmann polled 2,000 of its customers to discover what methods they used as stress relief, with meditation and reading coming in last.

“Cleaning has been widely reported as an effective method to help relax and relieve stress and due to the past difficult 18 months it has become more popular than ever in our homes,” said Susan Fermor, a spokesperson for Dr Beckmann.
“It is eye-opening and funny that the nation would opt for cleaning the bedroom, rather than using it for something a little more intimate with their other half, as a method to alleviate stress.”
Cleaning the home can release endorphins which create a more positive mindset. Whether it’s vacuuming, dusting, scrubbing, or running around the house tidying away clutter, cleaning the home has a lot of added benefits that are usually associated with physical exercise.
In addition, they also discovered that nine out of 10 people said having a dirty or untidy home impacted their overall mood. A further quarter said that having an unkempt home was detrimental to their productivity.
