Brits urged to visit churches and supermarkets to cool down as UK melts in 40C heatwave

Churches and supermarkets are top of the list of places Brits should go to cool off from the blistering heatwave, health bosses have urged.

As millions brace themselves for the hottest couple of days Britain has faced in a while, there were some unusual suggestions from the NHS on where exactly to get your temperature down.

Brits have been warned they will be baking in temperatures up to 40c and could face phone problems as the mega heat is predicted to have an effect on people's phone signals.

Public buildings, other places of worships and libraries have also been tipped by the Department for Health and the UK Health Secretary to cool people down.

In a document, released in May and funded by taxpayers, titled Beat the Heat: Keep Cool at Home health chiefs warned people to keep safe at home by moving into the cooler parts of their houses.

Households should also open up their windows at night when their air is colder to get a fresh breeze through the room.

Union leaders have called for certain jobs to be given tools to combat the sweltering heat, including bin collectors who they feel should be issued with umbrellas to block to powerful rays.

The TUC says outside tasks should be abandoned between 11am and 3pm when UV levels are highest.

Brits who are thinking of taking advantage of the heat for a drink down the pub are being told to think again.

Bosses have urged people to stay in doors where they can and avoid any alcohol.
