Jamie Lynn Spears has been announced to take part in this year’s series of Dancing With The Stars (DWTS),
The younger sister of popstar Britney Spears, who has found fame in her own right starring in TV shows including Zoey 101 and Sweet Magnolias, was confirmed as part of the line-up of the US version of Strictly Come Dancing on Tuesday.
The news was shared on Good Morning America (GMA), where Spears, 32, appeared alongside professional dancer Alan Bersten, 29, with whom she has been partnered.
The mum-of-two spoke about the opportunity and revealed that she will be donating her weekly salary to the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA and the writers’ union WGA amid the on-going Hollywood strike.
She explained: “[I’m] able to do it for a reason that means a lot to me. While everybody in my community is on strike, I’ve had this unique opportunity where I was offered this chance to work when my community can’t work.
“So I figured I’ll do this and I will donate my weekly salary to SAG [and] WGA and just give back to them at a time when they can’t even give to themselves.”
Asked if she’s feeling confident ahead of the show’s launch date on September 26, which UK fans can watch on Disney Plus, she replied: “I don’t know if one can ever be 100 percent ready to take on something this big. I didn’t realise what a commitment it is [but] I’m ready to challenge myself.”
Footage has also been shared on X - formerly known as Twitter - of Spears and Bersten in a rehearsal studio.
She can be heard saying in the clip: “I’m so excited because I’m joining the cast of Dancing with the Stars and I can’t wait to show you my moves.”
The full line-up for the new season is set to be announced on Wednesday with former Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix and Charity Lawson - who appeared on The Bachelor earlier this year - already confirmed.
