Britney Spears set to return to music with Sir Elton John collaboration

In news that will delight fans, it has been announced that Britney Spears will return to music for the first time since her controversial conservatorship ended in a collaboration with Sir Elton John.

Details of the project are limited but The Princess of Pop will work on a new track titled Hold Me Closer with Rocket Man himself Sir Elton, it has been confirmed. Speculation has mounted in recent weeks that the pair have been working on a new version of the 1971 hit Tiny Dancer.

Sir Elton shared a post on his official Instagram showing a rose and rocket emoji with the words "hold me closer" on Monday. In December 2021, he had his first number one in 16 years with a similar arrangement: Cold Heart with Dua Lipa was a reworking of the 1972 classic "Rocket Man".

It will be the first time that Britney Spears and Sir Elton have worked together. The Oops... I did it again singer, who recently married partner of six years Sam Ashgari in Los Angeles, has had six number ones across a career which will move into its fourth decade, the last of which was Scream & Shout featuring Will.I.Am in 2012.

More information is due to be shared in the coming week, a spokesperson said. Rumours of the high-profile collaboration were reported last month by US media outlets, though tonight has been the first official confirmation.

It comes as the 40-year-old singer continues her legal battle with her father Jamie Spears over his alleged misconduct during her conservatorship of 13 years. Last month, US Judge Brenda Penny denied a motion by Mr Spears that his daughter should return to court to face further questioning over the controversial legal arrangement which ended in November 2021.

In June last year, a Free Britney mural appeared in Heaton as concerned fans showed support for the singer after she spoke out about the extent of her much publicised conservatorship.
