Popular British YouTuber Charlie McDonnell, known on YouTube as charlieissocoollike, has come out as trans on Instagram.
Charlie posted a picture on her page of a selfie with the caption "Gender reveal" followed by an emoji of the trans flag, then "still going by Charlie but the new pronouns are she/they!". They also posted on their instagram story "new gender just dropped".
Charlie, who was the first British YouTuber to reach one million subscribers, stepped back from the public eye a few years ago. She removed all the videos from her YouTube channel, which she started in 2007, in 2019 in order to focus on their career as a screenwriter, but still streams on Twitch.

The post has been supported by fans and fellow YouTubers alike, with many sharing messages of support. The post has thousands of comments from Charlie's 152,000 followers. It’s a Sin and Doctor Who showrunner, Russell T Davies commented: “Hello Charlie! Much love”
Fellow British YouTubers have shown their support, including Daniel Howell, who made his return to YouTube in 2019 with an hour-long coming out video, and commented a heart emoji and sparkle emoji. KickthePJ also commented saying "very happy for you Charlie!"
One fan, mimicking the famous charlieissocoolike outro, recorded by Stephen Fry, wrote: “You’ve just had the almost imponderable joy of watching charlieissocoollike coming out as trans, which makes you, like, cool” Other fans have taken to Twitter to tweet their support.
