British Transport Police inspector resigns over sex texts to junior officer

A former police officer has been dismissed for bombarding a junior colleague with inappropriate and unwanted sex texts.

Inspector Gary Pinner, based in Camden, resigned prior to a misconduct hearing where it was heard he breached standards of professional behaviour.

British Transport Police said Insp Pinner repeatedly sent messages of a sexual nature to a vulnerable colleague of a lower rank, none of which were reciprocated in any way.

Despite this, he persisted in sending them over a considerable period of time.

A disciplinary panel in London concluded Insp Pinner’s actions amounted to gross misconduct.

Had he remained in the police service, he would have been dismissed with immediate effect.

Insp Pinner was not present at his hearing held between October 16 and 17.

Deputy Chief Constable Alistair Sutherland said: “I fully support the panel’s decision in this case and hope this sends a clear message to those who seek to abuse their position of power that this behaviour will never be tolerated in our force.”
