A British tourist has reportedly been killed in Tenerife after trying to run across a busy motorway in the early hours of Saturday.
The 23-year-old man had climbed over barriers and was trying to get across the road, according to the Sun and Spanish police reports.
Emergency service reports state the man was hit on the TF-1 highway near the municipality of Adeje, to the south of the Spanish island.
The Civil Guard responded and two ambulances were sent to the scene at around 4am on Saturday morning - with the young man being confirmed to have died at the scene.
A spokesperson said: "Once there, the SUC personnel verified that the victim had injuries incompatible with his life and confirmed his death."
The 23-year-old has not been named by the police.
The sunny weather, hotels, beaches and nightlife make the Canary Islands a holiday hotspot - with more than five million visiting every year.
Of these, around 2.3 million British tourists visit Tenerife every year, around three times the number of full time Spanish residents on the island. The majority of visits are trouble free.
