British rapper Stormzy, known for his contributions to the grime genre of rap, has been banned from driving for nine months after admitting to using his phone while driving his Rolls-Royce through London. The 31-year-old artist, whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Owuo Jr., has achieved significant success in the music industry, with his debut album 'Gang Signs and Prayer' winning album of the year at the Brit Awards in 2018.

Despite his musical accolades, Stormzy's driving record came under scrutiny at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court, where District Judge Andrew Sweet described his actions as 'dangerous and irresponsible.' The court heard that Stormzy had previously put 'vulnerable road users at risk' by driving a Lamborghini Urus with illegally tinted windows that allowed only 4% light transmission, far below the required 70% for tinting.

Stormzy, who was not present in court, pleaded guilty in writing to the cellphone driving charge from March. He had also admitted to the tinting offense in 2023 and had a history of speeding violations. In his defense, Stormzy's lawyer stated that the artist had apologized and accepted responsibility for his actions.

As a result of the court's ruling, Stormzy was fined 2,010 pounds ($2,500) and had penalty points added to his license. This legal consequence serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the consequences of irresponsible driving behavior, even for high-profile individuals like Stormzy.
