British mansion that secretly recorded Nazi generals during WWII reopens as museum

A grand country mansion just outside London has reopened with a remarkable story hidden behind its elegant walls. The newly opened Trent Park House of Secrets museum tells the little-known story of how British intelligence turned the estate into a covert surveillance center during World War II, secretly recording conversations of captured Nazi generals to gather crucial military intelligence.

According to Smithsonian Magazine, the operation relied not on forceful interrogations but on hidden microphones placed throughout the mansion. While senior German prisoners of war relaxed upstairs, intelligence officers in the basement listened, recorded and transcribed their conversations, often uncovering information the prisoners never intended to reveal.
