Britain’s curlers overcame an Ashes collapse to beat Australia 9-8 and keep their gold medal chance alive at the Winter Olympics.
Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds of Team GB were back in action for the first time since losing their unbeaten record to Switzerland on Thursday.
And when they raced into a 6-1 lead after four ends it looked to all the world like the mixed doubles duo were in the mood to rout the Aussies.
But the Green and Gold responded, with Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt pulling three back in the fifth and a further two in the sixth.
The world champions responded by edging back in front in the penultimate end but the Aussies had the hammer in the last and used the final shot to make up the two points necessary to level at 8-8 and force an extra end.
Mouat and Dodds, who had won two of their first three matches, showed their experience to regroup in conversation with coach David Murdoch.
They then attacked sudden death, Mouat cleaning out the house with a cannonball run to leave Gill needing a miracle shot to save the tie.
She could not come up with it and the match ended without Britain needing their last stone.
