British Basketball League agrees deal with Bristol production firm

A Bristol-based media production company has secured a broadcasting deal with the British Basketball League (BBL).

Brandvox will support the UK’s top professional basketball division with live broadcast of games across its owned and operated channels - such as the ‘BBL Player’ and the league’s official YouTube channel - throughout the 2022-2023 season.

The business previously worked as the home broadcasters of South West franchises Bristol Flyers and Plymouth City Patriots last year, and the new agreement will see it expand on that to to cover every single game involving all 10 sides in the competition.

The BBL said the deal would help bring UK basketball to “an even broader audience”, in addition to the 30 matches shown live on Sky Sports this season.

The league’s head of broadcast and content, Mani Gill, said: “I am truly delighted to welcome Brandvox on board this season. They share our vision and ambition to transform the livestream and grow the coverage of our competition by building a truly fantastic product for fans.”

Nic Acton, managing director of Brandvox, said: “We are proud and honoured to have been appointed as the British Basketball League’s broadcast partner for the 2022-2023 season.

“After a successful few years streaming games for the Bristol Flyers – and more recently, Plymouth City Patriots – we are extremely excited to embark on this journey with the BBL. We're looking forward to delivering an entertaining and consistent livestreaming product across the league.”

Last December, the BBL announced it had secured a major £7m investment from US firm 777 Partners to transform the entirety of the sport, from the infrastructure of the elite level of the game down to community grassroot operations.

With the announcement the league said it would look to invest in a "digital transformation" to more effectively deliver the league’s content to its digitally native audience.

In addition to its previous work with Bristol Flyers and Plymouth City Patriots, Brandvox has a client base consisting of a number of top professional sports clubs, including Bristol football league sides City and Rovers, rugby side Bristol Bears and Somerset County Cricket Club.
