British Airways shares most searched-for cities in recent months

  • Athens and Jersey have become the most searched-for destinations by British Airways Holidays customers over the past two months, outperforming traditional city-break favourites such as Rome, Barcelona, and Prague.
  • This surge in interest is largely attributed to the fact that neither Athens nor Jersey requires British visitors to undergo biometric checks for the EU entry-exit system (EES), with Greece having dropped the requirement and Jersey being part of the Common Travel Area.
  • Athens is attracting visitors with its burgeoning fine-dining scene, affordability compared to other European capitals, and cultural hooks from upcoming films and series, alongside its appealing Athenian Riviera.
  • Jersey, a significant short-break destination in the 1970s, is experiencing renewed interest due to its rich natural landscapes, coastal appeal, and opportunities for a tranquil escape.
  • Gibraltar also made a surprise entry into the top 10, valued for its extensive history, unique blend of British and Mediterranean culture, and natural beauty, despite being set to implement Schengen area frontier rules, including EES biometrics, from 15 July.
