British Airways flight declares mid-air emergency before diverting to Aberdeen

A British Airways flight from London Heathrow to Iceland has declared a mid-air medical emergency while travelling over Scotland.

The plane has been diverted to Aberdeen International Airport having sent out a 7700 squawk code after a passenger became unwell shortly after take off.

The BA800 flight to Keflavik departed at around 7.25am but was forced to turn around a short time later. The alert was issued as it flew over the Western Isles, with the pilots requesting a priority landing.

The passenger is expected to receive medical assistance after being taken off the aircraft, however their current condition is not known.

A spokesperson for British Airways confirmed that the plane landed safely and is expected to continue onto its final destination shortly.
